Why do people think that Twizzlers is licorice?
In fact, Twizzlers is *nowhere* near what real licorice is or even tastes like. Why is this?
people think it is licorice because they have no clue what licorice is.

Licorice is just a type of candy that was named after a plant that the orgional candy was flavored w/ back in the past. The link below further explains, but basically Twizzlers is what would be classified as a modern day licorice.

Possibly it is because of the twisted action. Both licorice and twizzlers are twisted into a shape. I think you are right about this though. You can separate the twizzlers but you can’t with licorice.

If they actually think it’s a licorice, it’s because they have only been introduced to fake licorice as licorice and have not yet been introduced to real licorice.
But many people know that it is not real licorice yet still call it licorice because that’s what the companies call their product. And companies call their product licorice because the candy has it’s roots in real licorice.
If a recipe calls for licorice as an ingredient, no one in their right mind is going to go out and buy Twizzlers.
