Has anyone ever taken Valerian for public speaking?

I heard valerian is good if you are nervous for a speech or presentation. Has anyone ever tried it?

Presentations give me terrible anxiety! I took valerian once before a speech, and it really calmed me down a lot. I was able to focus and speak clearly. The only problem with it is that it made my stomach upset. I have a pretty sensitive stomach though, so you may not have that problem.

Valerian Root, yes it’s quite a nifty natural remedy for mild anxiety – one of the few approved over the counter substances. Combined with a little psychological confidence in its efficacy it could do quite well, but for you to really experience its real therapeutic effects it needs to be taken over a period of 2 weeks. Not to be used in excess of course, as doses in excess of 500mg a day do produce adverse side effects characteristic of benzodiazepines/sedatives.
